Hi, I’m Karina Reyes, a bilingual School Psychologist, educational advocate, and the founder of TalkToMyAdvocate.
 

Throughout my career in education, I have worked closely with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and special education teams to better understand a student’s individual needs and determine the supports and services that can help them succeed. My background in School Psychology, along with my graduate education from California State University, Northridge, has given me an in-depth understanding of special education evaluations, student assessments, IEPs, 504 Plans, accommodations, interventions, and the school-based processes families are often expected to navigate on their own.
 

And I know those processes can feel overwhelming.

Parents are often handed pages of assessments, reports, goals, services, accommodations, and educational terminology—and then asked to make important decisions about their child. You may leave a meeting wondering, “Did I ask the right questions? Does this plan really address my child’s needs? What does all of this actually mean?”
 

That’s where I can help.

I created TalkToMyAdvocate to give families a place where they can slow things down, ask questions, understand their documents, and feel prepared before walking into an IEP or 504 meeting.

As a bilingual School Psychologist, I bring a unique perspective to advocacy because I understand both sides of the table. I understand how schools evaluate students, how educational data is interpreted, how eligibility and services are discussed, and how IEP and 504 teams develop plans. More importantly, I know how important it is for parents to understand that information so they can meaningfully participate in decisions about their child.

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and centered around your student. My goal is not to create conflict between families and schools. My goal is to help build communication, ask the right questions, identify concerns, and make sure your child’s individual needs remain at the center of the conversation.
